Are you troubled by the deterioration of carbon heating elements?
To improve heat resistance and corrosion resistance of heating elements used in industrial furnaces
I want to use carbon heating elements in special environments where they could not be used before.
Conventional CVD methods are expensive and not cost-effective
The challenge,
Mitsui Kinzoku's iconos™* coating is the solution!
*Rare metal solutions such as tantalum, tungsten, niobium, and molybdenum
01
Superior stability, inhibits high temperature degradation
Iconos™ coatings last about 3 times longer than uncoated
Iconos™ coated carbon materials are highly durable in a wide range of temperatures and atmospheres.
Iconos™ coatings have been shown to extend the service life by approximately 3 times compared to uncoated products (see chart on the right).

Comparison of appearance before and after firing of uncoated and iconos™-coated carbon materials

02
High adhesion and non-peeling
Maintains adhesion for long periods of time in high-temperature environments of 2000°C or higher
Extrusions coated with iconos™ coatings exhibit high corrosion resistance with no weight change after extended high-temperature treatment (see chart at right).
The coated film remains after high-temperature treatment, indicating that the ICONOS™ coating has high adhesion.
Appearance and SEM images of iconos™ coated extrusions before and after firing
The iconos™ coating minimizes degradation of the carbon material during firing.

CASE STUDY
Case Studies
Sintering and firing furnaces

Issue 1: Heating elements deteriorate quickly due to the harsh sintering and firing environment (temperature, gases generated during sintering), etc.
Issue 2: Due to the structure of the furnace, it takes time to replace heating elements.
Issue 3: Replacement of heating elements is a productivity bottleneck.
Effects after introduction
Longer service life and lower running costs.
Replacement frequency has been reduced and repair time has been cut.
Continuous operation hours increased and productivity improved.
